It’s the 4th of July weekend and do we have a deal in store for you. Come in anytime this weekend and get a fire grilled Barackwurst and a frosty Sam Adams Summer on draught for only $10! We’ve tapped the kegs and fired up the grill, so the only thing missing is you!

Come and celebrate with the Punk’s $10 deal all weekend long. Happy 4th of July!

Nothing says backyard grilling quite like the 4th of July, and here at Punk’s Backyard Grill, we can’t think of a holiday that makes us happier.  I mean, seriously, a holiday that not only celebrates American independence, but does so by grilling in the backyard and kicking back to have a few beers with your friends and family? Come on people, what more could you ask for in a holiday?

So, as you can imagine, we’re pretty excited for the coming weekend and we’re kicking off our first 4th of July in high style.  We’re breaking out the big grill, throwing it on the patio, tapping a keg, and having a party.  There’s nothing like a good old celebration of American independence and no better place to celebrate than Punk’s Backyard Grill (at least that’s what we think).

We’ll have some great new menu items debuting for the weekend alongside our classic backyard fare.  You can expect apple pie, our “now-in-season” peach cobbler, grilled corn on the cob, watermelon and much more (let us know what you like and vote in our dessert poll below).  And for all of you beer drinkers out there, we’ll be tapping a keg of Sam Adams Summer out on the patio.  What better way to celebrate American independence than by drinking a delicious beer that is named after a patriot?

So as you start making your plans for the 4th of July, how about meeting some friends at Punk’s for a little celebration? We’ll be firing up the outdoor grill and tapping the kegs on Friday at 11am, and the celebration will continue on through Sunday afternoon.

Just in case you missed it, a nice article appeared in the June 17th issue of The Capital about summertime grilling and Punk’s Backyard Grill. With Father’s Day and 4th of July rapidly approaching, and with grilling season in full swing, a nice backyard cookout is just what the doctor ordered.  So, if you don’t have the time, space or motivation to do it on your own, come on into Punk’s and let our backyard be your backyard!

Chef’s Choice: Punk’s serves up ‘real food, good food’

Who doesn’t love a good deal? (Especially these days.)

Back in the day when Punk’s was little more than an idea on paper, we knew that we wanted to offer great food at affordable prices.  Now if you watch television these days, there are plenty of commercials from restaurants touting their “great deals” and their menus that offer lots of food for not a lot of money.  But in my book, a great deal doesn’t necessarily mean more for the money — it means better for the money.  And its looks like I’m not alone.

The June issue of Washingtonian magazine features the annual “Cheap Eats” list — the editors’ picks for the 100 best bargain restaurants in the greater Washington DC metro area — and guess who made the list? Yep. The list isn’t online yet, so you’ll have to pick up a copy on newsstands.  In the spirit of good deals, this issue is well worth buying — it’s the most used reference resource in my house for sure.

In other “good deals” news: Punk’s won “Best Bang for Your Buck” in the annual What’s Up Annapolis magazine “Best of Annapolis” poll.  Of all the categories, we couldn’t have picked a better one to win.  Punk’s is about feeling as good about what you ate as you are about what you paid.

There are plenty of places to eat that won’t break the bank, but what about the food?  We shouldn’t have to compromise the quality of food we eat in the interest of affordability.  Two weeks ago, Dave attended the National Restaurant Show in Chicago.  A vendor offered him a sample of pre-cooked, pre-crumbled bacon.  The salesman praised the product’s cost-effectiveness, ease of use, and (worst of all) popularity.  Seriously? How hard is it to cook bacon and crumble it?  Needless to say, Dave didn’t buy any.

So many thanks to Washingtonian and everyone who voted for us in the What’s Up Annapolis poll. We’re pleased as Myers Dark Rum Punch ($7.00 per glass) for the recognition.

We thought we’d share a few photos of the food here at Punk’s Backyard Grill to whet your appetite.  All of these great photos were taken by Jason Knauer.  Hungry yet???

In case you didn’t pick up the Food section of today’s Washington Post, take a look here at the “First Bite” on Punk’s Backyard Grill written by the Post’s food critic Tom Sietsema. The article, entitled “Like Home, But Without the Mosquitoes” appeared in the Wednesday, May 6th newspaper and is available online.

We especially liked the shout-out to Chef Dean:

There’s a homey but also contemporary quality to a lot of the menu, which runs to creamy macaroni and cheese scattered with toasted panko (Japanese bread crumbs) and a bright Key lime pie. We are not surprised to learn that a serious chef is behind these and other recipes: Dean Maupin, the executive chef of the Clifton Inn in Charlottesville, who also trained the cooks here.
