Expanded Bar!

Bar

In case you missed it, we recently expanded our bar area adding more draft beer lines and giving ourselves a bit more space. It’s been a long time coming.  The demand for craft beers in the Annapolis area has been growing substantially over the last few years and we figured y’all needed someone to step up to fill the void.

The new bar area gives us lots of great new options. We now have twenty draft lines – 19 craft beers lines and 1 red sangria line – that will be rotating on a regular basis. We will continue to try to bring unique and interesting beers to Annapolis that you can’t find at very many other places. We will also make sure that the beers remain accessible and freaking delicious. We also have more room for liquor and wine now which means you’ll see an expanded cocktail list and an expanded wine list in the next few months. So keep an eye out for that.

At the end of the day, we think it’s a pretty solid change. Sheila is sad that the tree and the umbrella are gone, but we think she’ll get over it. Dave is sad that we couldn’t fit in 9000 more draft beer lines, but we think he’ll get over it. Isaias wanted Patron Silver on tap, but we vetoed that idea. And our bartenders wanted to make the entire restaurant one big bar, but we vetoed that too. We think you’ll be happy with the change, but there is only one way to find out. Cheers!

Bar Opening! November 5th!

As you may have noticed, we have a new bar! And although it’s been quasi open for a few weeks now, we’re officially kicking it off on Saturday, November 5th with food and drink specials and a new cocktail list.

For our grand kickoff, we will be offering $3 pints of New Belgium beers, souvenir glassware, $5 specialty cocktails and 10% off of all food from 4:00pm – 10:00pm.  We will have four New Belgium beers available on draft for $3 each, including Fat Tire, Hoptober, Ranger IPA, and 1554 Black Ale.  Two additional beers, Snow Day Winter Ale and Belgo IPA, will be available in bottles for the same price.

November 5th also will also mark the debut of the new and improved Punk’s Backyard Grill cocktail offerings, and all ten cocktails will be offered for $5 each (regularly $7-$8).  The new cocktail list features a variety of drinks including a Caipirinha, an Auchentoshan Scotch Old Fashioned, two sparkling wine cocktails, one original beer cocktail featuring Draft Punk IPA, and more.  To view all of the cocktails, check out the Punk’s Beverage List.

For those of you who have been to our big events in the past, you know the deal.  But things might be a bit different this time around.  You’ll be able to sit at the bar and order the full menu, along with any drinks, but you don’t need to be at the bar for the specials.  It’s gonna get busy, so be prepared.  In addition, we’ll have some New Belgium schwag to give away including t-shirts and more. It’ll be a blast, Dave and Sheila will be bartending, and all of your favorite friends will be there.

And in case you haven’t stopped in, the bar looks like this:

Hours Update

On Sunday, October 17th, Punk’s will be closing at 7pm instead of the usual 9pm closing time.  It’s only for this Sunday.  We’ll be back to our regular hours on Monday morning.

So make sure you get here early for your Punk’s fix!  And thanks for understanding. You all are the best.

And just for fun, here’s a lovely picture of a cocktail and the Punk’s Navy flag.

Cocktail Recipe: French 75

It’s a beautiful day and to help ease the end-of-summer transition, we thought we’d share a time tested and delicious summer cocktail recipe.  You can’t beat a good champagne cocktail when the weather is warm.  Enjoy!

French 75

1 ½ oz Gin

¾ oz Lemon Juice

½ oz Simple Syrup

3 oz Champagne or Sparkling Wine

Lemon Twist for Garnish

In a shaker, combine the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup and shake until combined.  Strain the mixture into a champagne flute and top with the champagne.  To make the lemon twist, cut a thin strip of lemon peel (yellow part only) and wrap it tightly around a straw.  Remove it from the straw and hang it on the edge of the champagne flute.

Spring Cocktail Class at Punk’s!

It’s time for another cocktail class at Punk’s!

Back by popular demand, the date for the next cocktail class has been set for 7pm on Wednesday, May 19th.  We’ve changed the date from a Sunday afternoon to a Wednesday night, so take note.  Sundays tend to be a little bit hectic in our backyard, so we figured an evening class mid-week might be more approachable.  In this month’s session we will be learning more about spring cocktails.  This is our second class based on spring cocktails and we’ll have new recipes and new drinks for you all to try.  So if you like the spring time and you like cocktails, this is the class for you!

The specific drinks that will be covered is yet to be determined, so stay tuned to this blog, the Punk’s Facebook page, and the Punk’s Twitter Feed for more information.  Cost for this class will be $20 per person and it will include a couple of cocktails and appetizers.

To RSVP either call us at 410-571-7744 or email us at dmccabe @ punksbackyardgrill.com

Save the Date for a Punk’s Spring Cocktail Class!

The next cocktail class at Punk’s has been scheduled!

On Sunday, March 21st at 2:00pm we’ll be mixing up spring cocktails here at Punk’s.  The cost will be $15 per person and, as always, that will include light appetizers and a cocktail (or two). Hopefully winter will be a long lost memory by then and we’ll all be enjoying the first days of spring.  More details will be coming soon, so stay tuned.  For now, just mark your calendars.

This picture is one of our new spring cocktails, the blueberry gimlet.

December Drink Classes at Punk’s

This December, Punk’s will be hosting two classes on how to make holiday cocktails!

The first will be held on Saturday December 12th at 2:00pm, where we’ll be making Punk’s Winter Punch.  We will be mixing up a party size pitcher of the cocktail, which combines citrus fruits, rum, brandy and spiced simple syrup for a festive holiday drink. Just in time for the holidays, this drink is great for entertaining.

The second seminar will be held on Saturday December 19th at 2:00pm and will have a New Year’s Eve theme. We’ll be pouring champagne cocktails and house-made bitters, showcasing a number of flavored bitters that are easy to make at home.   We’re certain you’ll be able to impress your fellow party-goers with these techniques.

Registration is open until the Friday preceding each class at 5:00pm. Cost is $10 per seminar or $18 for both, which includes a cocktail and light food.  We imagine it will be quite a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Space is limited, so call or email us at the restaurant to make your reservations today.
