Well, as expected, Navy football pummeled Army this past weekend in the annual Army/Navy game in Philadelphia.  As a result of the 14 point beating, anyone who comes to Punk’s with their ticket stub from the game gets 14% off of their meal!  We’re leaving this offer out there through Sunday the 20th, so you have all week to round up your friends and come celebrate the Navy victory at Punk’s. What are you waiting for??

Get into the holiday spirit by enjoying a drink at Punk’s!

From December 4th through the 27th, we will be donating $0.15 to a local charity for every beer, glass of wine, and cocktail sold in the restaurant.  We’ll be filling up three large glass jars (generously donated by Crate&Barrel) with bottle caps and wine corks by tossing one in every time someone orders a drink.  When you order your beverage, you can choose which of the three charities you’d like to make a contribution to, and at the end of the month we’ll write each charity a check for the total amount donated.

It’s a fun and easy way for you to help people in need just by ordering an alcoholic beverage during your meal at Punk’s!  The three local charities that we will be donating to are:

Light House: Anne Arundel County’s only 24/7 homeless shelter

The Box of Rain Foundation: A youth mentoring program based around maritime activities

The Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County: A non-profit that provides a safe and educational setting for children ages 5-18.

This charity event will run from December 4th through December 27th and the more you come, the more money will go to charity.  Thanks to everyone for your support!

On Sunday, December 12th, we renew the gridiron rivalry between Army and Navy.  Since 1890, these two institutions have been battling it out on the football field for a year’s worth of bragging rights.  And although Navy has won the previous seven consecutive years, we always expect Army to put up a good fight.

For those of you attending this time honored tradition, which is being held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Punk’s will be offering a special discount the entire week following the game. Just bring in your ticket stub from the game and we’ll give you a discount worth the number of points that Navy wins the game by.  So assuming that Navy wins (come on people, of course Navy will win), the discount could be 10%, 21% or 35% off an entrée…or more! The promotion will run from Sunday, Dec. 13 to Sunday, Dec. 20.

So get out there and support Navy football.  And then come feed your friends and families at Punk’s!

This December, Punk’s will be hosting two classes on how to make holiday cocktails!

The first will be held on Saturday December 12th at 2:00pm, where we’ll be making Punk’s Winter Punch.  We will be mixing up a party size pitcher of the cocktail, which combines citrus fruits, rum, brandy and spiced simple syrup for a festive holiday drink. Just in time for the holidays, this drink is great for entertaining.

The second seminar will be held on Saturday December 19th at 2:00pm and will have a New Year’s Eve theme. We’ll be pouring champagne cocktails and house-made bitters, showcasing a number of flavored bitters that are easy to make at home.   We’re certain you’ll be able to impress your fellow party-goers with these techniques.

Registration is open until the Friday preceding each class at 5:00pm. Cost is $10 per seminar or $18 for both, which includes a cocktail and light food.  We imagine it will be quite a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

We’ve been testing out new soups over the last few weeks and yesterday brought a new addition with the introduction of our fall squash bisque!

A combination of butternut squash, rutabaga, carrot, green apple, onion, and some other fine fall root vegetables, the new squash soup includes a bounty of now-in-season produce.  Tis’ the season for root vegetables and warm soup! And in case you missed our previous offerings, there was a smokey black bean soup with applewood smoked bacon, roasted jalapenos and an array of vegetables, as well as a rich sweet potato soup with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. But don’t worry, we’ll be rotating soups all winter long.

You may be asking yourself how or why people would make pitcher drinks in the winter.  You’re thinking that outdoor cookouts and pitcher drinks work in the summer, but not in the winter, right?

Well, contrary to popular belief, pitcher drinks are just as good in the winter as they are in the summer! You’ll need to make a few changes to the products and flavors that you use, but you can achieve the warmth of the holidays with pitcher drinks that will keep your whole party coming back for more.

At Punk’s, we take the flavors of the season, add some fresh herbs and spices, and mix up some fall and winter favorties.  You’ll find a winter punch that is spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice; an apple harvest cocktail with apple cider, lemon and sage; and some other goodies to make your holiday season more enticing.  And we’re working on a warm mulled wine to be served on those really cold winter days.  So go out there and be adventureous! Don’t think that because the weather has gotten chilly, that you can’t enjoy the flavors of fall in your cocktails.  And if you need inspiration, come into Punk’s!
